Do Good Project Week 7 : User Prototype & Project Developement

Image
User Prototype (Test 1) A quick user prototype is conducted among peers to get their feedback as a user. Throughout the prototype, I speak verbally and give tasks for the user to experience the installation. Besides, I also show the programmed LED lights and ask them to imagine the color tone and motion. Feedback Tone of voice The tone of voice for the jellyfish can be more friendly. This is to let users feel comfortable interacting with the jellyfish. For example, Hello, I'm Melda. I'm your manifestation of your inner self. You can express your negativity and positivity freely to me. I'll let you witness the beauty of your inner thoughts. See the light within yourself to survive in this challenging environment. In this aspect, an ultrasonic sensor can be used to trigger the narration when the user is near the jellyfish. Lights For the lighting effect of the jellyfish, one of the users suggests that the lights of jellyfish can fade in and out more naturally as the jellyfish...

Do Good Project Week 7 : Finalize Project Proposal

Image
01- Project Background Problem Statement Social comparison among peers leads to the spiral of negative mindset Cycle of Mindset Based on Primary Research Highly competitive environment > Self-compare between peers > Low Self- Esteem > Stress > Overthink (Self-doubt) > Controlled by negative mindset > Hurt/ Lack of motivation 02- Project Purpose Empowering Helping people to do things they otherwise couldn't do, helping people go beyond their limits. 03- Target Audience Young adults who aged between 18-30 years old that are experiencing spiralling of negative mindset due to social comparison 04- Idea & Concept Main Concept Embrace our negative mindset as part of the flow of life and realize the beauty of both positivity and negativity in our inner self Rationale People often deny or overlook their inner shadow and thought that pursuing the positive is how we should live. But the truth is that both positive and negative make us who we are. This physical install...

Do Good Project Week 6 : Technical Tryout & Exploration of Materials

Image
In Week 6, I came across to have some conversation with other lecturers on my project. Based on their feedback, the experience of the installation is too structuralized. Based on their experience, an immersive installation is more expressive and we should not force the audience to do the tasks given. From what I'm proposing right now, users will feel overwhelmed when they are forced to answer so many questions when interacting with the jellyfish. Thus, I plan to develop further and think from another perspective to propose a better execution. Refinement on Storyboard This is the latest storyboard. There will still be narration happening but it only happens when the user steps into the dark room. The purpose is to let user express their positivity and negativity freely in the room without any restrictions. The flow of the interactions is as described. Technical Research I start to do hands-on with the technical part. I did some research on the coding of LED programmable lights, mach...

Do Good Project Week 5 : Content Planning

Image
Content Planning Environment Setting Ocean The deep ocean is ruled by darkness. Sunlight does not penetrate much beyond 60 meters (about 200 feet) below the ocean’s surface. The hidden depths of the ocean represent unknown, unexplored thoughts, emotions, feelings, that are not visible on the surface. Thus, it reflects the deepest inner of ourselves and our unknowing parts in mind. The installation will take place in an ocean environment with the ambiance of the wave. When the user steps into a dark room with ocean elements, it represents the user is stepping into his/her world of the inner self and going to explore his/her mindset. Jellyfish Keywords: Acceptance, Flow, Survival Jellyfish is a Spirit Animal tied to Water, which represents our emotions. In our lives, we will face challenges that makes us to spiral around a negative mindset. We can learn from jellyfish and go with the flow of life rather than trying to always resist it. By accepting the negative mindset as part of the flo...

Do Good Project Week 4- Project Proposal 4 & Defining Problem Statement

Image
Primary Research In Week 4, I seek for another interview with 3 users to gather deeper information on their pain points. From the past interview, I understand that most of them encounter stress, anxiety, and even depression due to the highly competitive environment. They care about how people judge them and always make comparisons with others. Thus, I wonder why do they care so much and I hold another session to interview further. Google Form User Interview- Google Form Follow Up-User Interview Interview Screenshots User Response Insights 100% of the interviewees feel stressed when they always compare themselves with others due to the highly competitive environment. When they see others doing a better job than them, they will start to doubt and question themselves. 100% of the interviewees have low self-esteem when others did a better job than them. Others are always better than them even though they did a better job than others. However, when they didn't get recognition from other...

Do Good Project Week 3 : Primary Research & Defining Problem Statement

Image
In Week 3, I start to do primary research such as user interviews and surveys in order to develop a better understanding of Malaysians' resilience towards the occurrences of life such as stress, frustration, burnout, etc. Besides, the survey was also conducted to find out the problem statement and insights in order to create an installation that meets their needs. I have created a list of questions for both interviewees and counselors.  Primary Research -Interview & Surveys Objective of Interviews: Identify the exact mental burden faced by Malaysians Understand the behavior of Malaysians in overcoming their emotions Understand the emotional competencies of Malaysians Identify the practices of gratitude among Malaysians Research Procedures: Identify the learning direction List down interview questions in google form for psychological counselors & target audience Contact NGOs & 2 interviewees to make a virtual appointment Proceed to user interview to understand their need...

Do Good Project Week 2 : Project Proposal 3

Image
Project Proposal 3 - AR Learning App Throughout the week, I've tried to contact NGOs and psychologists to understand more about scream therapy. However, it's difficult for me to get information related as I don't receive any response from them. After researching more on the case studies, I found it very hard to gather information related from professionals and thus proposing another new idea. At this stage, I have proposed a new learning plan which explores AR technology combining UI/UX skills that I've learned before. Below shows the learning plan that I've amended:  Learning Plan 2 Project Background Ever since the minister of education has enforced the home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) system to mitigate the transmission of viruses, the learning gap and learning loss among primary students have become a major concern in Malaysia. Online learning has caused particularly primary school pupils to experience learning burnout or lack of motivation to learn and r...

Do Good Project Week 1 : Learning Plan & Project Proposal 1 & 2

Image
For the first week of the proposal, I planned to create an interactive installation with a physical build to learn more about codings in Unity. Thus, there will be 2 projects proposed on building an interactive installation.  Learning Goal My learning goal is to create an interactive installation with a physical build. I hope to let people to listen, visualize and experience the message conveyed by the physical installation. To be able to hands-on and explore materials for the installation. To be able to deliver my message via the storytelling/ interactive experience To be able to combine and utilize my current and advanced digital media design knowledge (Coding, editing, optimizing, fabricating) to create an interactive installation  To be able to create engaging responses for the target audiences What do I want to learn? Learn more advanced coding on Unity and Arduino  Learn using different tools and machines in the fab lab, such as Arduino, electric boards, LED lights,...
