Do Good Project Week 7 : Finalize Project Proposal

01- Project Background

Problem Statement

Social comparison among peers leads to the spiral of negative mindset

Cycle of Mindset Based on Primary Research

Highly competitive environment > Self-compare between peers > Low Self- Esteem > Stress > Overthink (Self-doubt) > Controlled by negative mindset > Hurt/ Lack of motivation

02- Project Purpose

Empowering

Helping people to do things they otherwise couldn't do, helping people go beyond their limits.

03- Target Audience

Young adults who aged between 18-30 years old that are experiencing spiralling of negative mindset due to social comparison

04- Idea & Concept

Main Concept

Embrace our negative mindset as part of the flow of life and realize the beauty of both positivity and negativity in our inner self

Rationale

People often deny or overlook their inner shadow and thought that pursuing the positive is how we should live. But the truth is that both positive and negative make us who we are. This physical installation aims to help people accept their negative mindset and realize the beauty of both positive and negative elements inside us and how they complete themselves to survive in this challenging environment. We should accept and follow the flow of life which makes us who are we today.

Idea & Concept

Melda is an interactive jellyfish that could listen and respond to humans. Jellyfish is used as the main visual element as we can learn how to accept our negative and positive mindsets as part of the flow of life. We should not resist things from happening but accept and learn to survive just like jellyfish. This installation is made to discover their own mindset and visualize the beauty of it through light installation. When the user speaks in positive intonations(high), the jellyfish will portray in warm colors such as red, orange, and yellow. While when the user speaks in negative intonations(low), the jellyfish will portray in cool colors such as blue and purple. Users will get to experience the beauty of the combination of both positivity and negativity which is carried by the jellyfish to survive in the dark ocean. They get to discover the light within their inner self throughout the experience.

05- Content Planning

Environment Settings - Ocean

Keywords: Unknown, Unexplored Thoughts, Deep

This project will emphasize single-user interaction as users will feel more comfortable speaking freely on their mindsets in the room. Visuals of oceans will be projected on the wall for users to immerse themselves as the ocean reflects the deepest inner of ourselves and our unknowing parts in mind. The deep ocean is ruled by darkness because sunlight does not penetrate much beyond 60 meters below the ocean’s surface. There will be stormy oceans and peaceful oceans to illustrate different scenarios of lives such as challenging or easy life. When it gets stormy, the jellyfish will move more vigorously. In contrast, it will move more subtle when the ocean starts to remain peaceful. This is to illustrate no matter how challenging our life is, the jellyfish will just follow the nature of flow and survive in the environment.

Key Visual - Jellyfish

Keywords: Acceptance, Flow, Survival

Jellyfish is a Spirit Animal tied to Water, which represents our emotions. In our lives, we will face challenges that make us to spiral around a negative mindset. We can learn from jellyfish and go with the flow of life rather than trying to always resist it. By accepting the negative mindset as part of the flow of life, you'll expend less energy fighting against life's currents, be less worried and anxious, and project a much calmer aura. If the jellyfish appears in your life, it means that you should believe more in yourself. Jellyfish may be very transparent but she shows the heart’s truth if you will follow it. This includes the pain and growth that may arise in your life. The inner light of jellyfish allows people to shine from the inside out letting those around you see who you are. It takes time to discover why so that you can feel better about yourself and see the light within yourself.

Storyboard

Measurement

The diagram above shows the measurement of the jellyfish. The jellyfish will be in 90cm x 70 cm ( a normal umbrella size ).
