Do Good Project Week 12 : Fabrication
Fabrication
This week, I start to explore the materials to get the visual outcome of the jellyfish. At first, I'm afraid of using the exact white tentacles for the tentacles. Thus, I pick on one of the materials and explore around first before getting the actual material to work with. I have picked the fluorescent fabric for the tentacles since it shows a skeletal effect of the lights due to the refraction of lights on the fabric. I experiment with different lengths and sizes of the fabric on the tentacles.
The tentacles are around 1.5m. After confirming the size and length, I've added another fabric which is bridal tulle material to create a more organic feel on the jellyfish. Besides, it also enhances the overall mood and feel.
Jellyfish's Head
I've used crystal organza for the head. I have covered the umbrella with the fabric in a more organic style using safety pins.
Hanging Hook
At last, I have wired up the umbrella for hanging purposes. I experiment with the ways of hanging and poking the holes around the umbrella myself and this is what makes the outcome of it.
Visual Effect
This is the current look and feels as there are two different light effects. However, I'm in a dilemma whether to apply both different light effects on the tentacles or attach to the head. At last, I stick back to my initial idea to apply another different light effect on the head to make the visual outcome look nicer. From what I've seen right now, the head of the jellyfish looks quite dull. These are the visual effects. However, the light transition will make changes because currently it's too fast for the warm colors.
