Do Good Project Week 18 : Final Submission

Image
Rationale  People often deny or overlook their inner shadow and think that pursuing positivity is how we should live. But the truth is that both positive and negative make us who we are. Due to the highly competitive environment, young adults who are between 18-30 years old tend to judge themselves and make self-comparison with others which leads to the spiral of negative mindset. The bad impact of a negative mindset will lead to decreased motivation as well as greater feelings of helplessness. This physical light installation aims to help people accept their negative mindset and realize the beauty of both positive and negative elements inside us and how we complete ourselves to survive in this challenging environment. The message conveyed is to accept and follow the flow of life which makes us who we are today. Melda is an interactive jellyfish that could listen and respond to humans. Jellyfish is used as the main visual element as we have to accept things from happening and learn...

Do Good Project Week 17 : Beta Test

Image
Beta Test (Test 5) I held a beta test with 5 users to see the overall user experience and gather their responses. The purpose is to gather users' feedback on the user experience in terms of visual, audio, and flow of the light installation.  Here is the survey form.  User's Feedback Insights 100% of the users understand the message brought by Melda is to express our own thoughts and embrace both negativity and positivity within our true selves. 100% of the users feel the light effects are impressive, comforting, and immersive. 50% of the users mention that there is some delay in the light changing.  50% of the users mention that the audio effect of Melda is too robotic. The echo feel of the audio makes it not clear when speaking which leads to confusion. Initially, the timer is set to 60 seconds for the first narration. Users felt that is too long because they are not sure what to do in between. Thus, I've changed it to 30 seconds. However, users felt that it was too shor...

Do Good Project Week 16 : Sound Editing & Technical Prototyping

Sound Editing  After settling down the copywriting, I start to do VO for Melda. I've added Reverb, Parametric Equilizer, and Delay to create some sort of spiritual voice for Melda. Audio Clip of Melda The video clip includes audio clip 1, 2 & 3. Technical Prototyping From my previous blog, I have mentioned allocating two different light effects for different scenarios. This is the code that I've spent time studying on and finally it works. Through the process, I also learn some new functions such as oneded(). Sources p5js. (n.d) onended(). Available at: https://p5js.org/reference/#/p5.MediaElement/onended  Fabrication Based on my previous observation on the jellyfish, I realize the head of the jellyfish is not aesthetically nice maybe is due to my self-expectation of the aesthetic. I think it's because there's not enough lighting on the head. Thus, I've added LED lights on the head to have a better structure of the jellyfish. As a result, it turns better and nic...
